Jamie is in hospital, and Recall and Laura keep a vigil at his bedside. Patti complains about the house Geoff has rented, demanding a bigger place which she can show off. Billy persuades George to take part in an unlicensed boxing match. On a shout in which they end up having tea with an old lady, the men play a prank on newcomer Sally by moving the pump to make her think that it has been stolen. But it backfires when they lose her and then a police car stops the appliance on the street, asking Hallam and the crew to identify themselves as the pump in question has been reported stolen. Finally Sally creeps out of the police car, smirking about getting her revenge.
Sandra is not happy when the Pearces turn up at her doorstep (again) to invite themselves for tea just as Jean also arrives. Patti overhears Jean telling Sandra about her plans to leave Bert because of his infidelity. Next morning at the station Sicknote is baffled to hear the gossip from Geoff and shouts at Hallam for offering Jean sanctuary. Hallam is fuming when he realizes who has spread the gossip.
Kevin thinks George and Billy are mad for taking the fight and warns him that Pearce is watching them. Two teenagers break into a swimming pool at night and one gets his foot trapped in the pool ladder. Sally demonstrates her swimming skills by diving into the water at once to support him. Colin's Mum and Zoë have another fight about him. Billy is told by Phil that George must lose the boxing match, because there is lots of money riding on his opponent, "The Exterminator". Billy cannot bring himself to tell George but it turns out his opponent is bigger and stronger anyway and George gets an ugly beating that leaves Kelly in tears of despair. Recall and Laura's nightmare continues as Jamie has to undergo another operation.
