Episode Summary[]

Nick is invited to a chamber of commerce dinner, where he has been asked to deliver a speech, Instead of the agreed speech, he instead gives a graphic tirade about unsafe cars and reckless driving, recalling the huge motorway pile up they had recently dealt with. His comments cause outrage and spark a local media frenzy.

Kate attends a party and is chatted up by a young policeman named Don. George and Kelly are at breaking point with Beattie's loud and unruly children. Elsewhere, Malcolm rows with Helen at a restaurant, when he refuses to go to Brussels with her, and then ventures into the ladies' toilets to reason with her. Bayleaf learns from Karen's mother that they have taken Melanie to Spain. Kate gets very drunk and sleeps with Don, but regrets it the following morning.

Blue Watch deal with a fire in a living room. In the commotion a fish tank is smashed and when the little girl gets upset, Colin rushes back in and puts her fish into the other, intact, aquarium. However, the little girl is distraught when she comes back into the house to find her fish have been eaten by her brother's piranha.

Kelly is fed up with Beattie's kids and asks George to throw them out again. When he refuses, she moves out and back in with her own parents. Doctors tell Recall and Laura that Jamie will require a lung transplant. Nick gets an angry reprimand from ACO Bulstrode and goes to see the widow of a man who had died in the crash.

Jean is left fuming when Sicknote and Cynthia kiss rather too passionately during rehearsals. Zoe is happy when Colin asks her out but disappointed when he takes her to a fish and chip van. She asks him to move in with her, but he can't muster the courage to tell his mother. Kate worries about being pregnant after her one night stand with Don. Distracted, during a shout at a burning warehouse she accidentally turns off the sprinklers instead of the alarm, endangering the lives of Kevin and Malcolm, who are inside.
