Episode Summary[]

John Hallam reports back for duty. Nick is preparing for his Chambers of Commerce speech and asks the watch for help with jokes. Colin's childish suggestions fall flat. George's brother in law Cyril is threatened by debt collectors but Beattie doesn't get an explanation. Bayleaf and Clare go to talk to Karen, who is still adamant about wanting custody of Melanie. Bayleaf looks around their small, dingy flat and vows he would never give up Melanie to live there.

The pump crew are called out by a well-dressed woman, who explains them she has been locked out of her house. Kate is suspicious of her story and voices her doubts but the men are all charmed by her. Recall climbs through a window, wrecking the bathroom in the process, and they let the woman in. That evening, a stranger arrives at Blackwall to confront Nick, fuming that they helped his ex-wife break into his house. She and her new boyfriend subsequently walked out with most of his furniture, and he has now been billed for the service. The men are speechless, but Kate allows herself a satisfied "I told you so!"

During rehearsals for the POPS production Richard III, Jean and Cynthia continue to bicker over Sicknote. Cyril's debt collectors turn up at Beattie's house while George and Kelly are there; George fights them off and asks Beattie to move in with them. Sicknote takes Cynthia home after the rehearsal and kisses her, but she runs off. Karen and her Spanish boyfriend appear at Melanie's school. They then drive off with her. At the fire station, Kevin asks Nick about a possible promotion and Nick suggests an Advanced Firefighting course. Thick fog causes a huge motorway pile up. To make matters worse, gas bottles on a lorry then start exploding. When Bayleaf returns home it dawns on him that Karen has kidnapped Melanie.
