Episode 10 (series 9) is the tenth episode of the ninth season of London's Burning. It was first broadcast on ITV on November 10, 1996.

Episode Summary[]

Jean gets an excellent review for "Macbeth", but Sicknote is annoyed because his directing didn't. Maggie is also upset when Derek's performance is panned. As Nick is at a Brigade conference, Carole is temporary Station Officer. Blue Watch's newest member arrives, an Australian named Chris Newman. They hold a raffle to decide his nickname, and settle on Maggie's suggestion, "Skippy".

At the conference Nick meets attractive Dutch fire officer Marianne. Carole and Jack get closer, but the alarm bells interrupt them. The pump ladder gets stuck in a traffic jam, causing the pump (with Pearce in charge) to arrive at the scene first. Pearce ignores his instructions to charge the dry riser and goes straight up to the incident, which is at the top of a tower block. Carole's crew then arrive and also go straight up, unaware that Pearce's crew are already there, meaning there are two crews but no water. They bicker on the landing and are reprimanded by Station Officer Grant. In the event, the fire turns out to be a smoking barbecue.

Meanwhile, a black firefighter named Two Tone delivers a new batch of computers to Blackwall, but finds only Pitbull, who tells him to "shove them up his arse" and then makes a joke about computers being "white man's magic". He then tells Two Tone to leave the computers in the watch room. An engineer arrives to install them but they have been stolen. Two Tone reports Pitbull's behaviour and racist remark to DO Chapman. Pearce learns from Two Tone that Carole's husband Martin left the Brigade because he had been run over while drunk off duty, not because of injures on a shout.

Jack and Recall drown their sorrows and Jack tells him about his colleague Phil who died on a shout, and how he testified against the Station Officer in charge, who Jack has just learned recently has committed suicide. Skippy goes out with Billy and Stephanie, but Billy spots his ex Lauren with another man and ends up being ejected from the bar. Nick and Marianne go out for a drink but their evening is cut short as she is invited to dinner with ACO Baxter.
